Our R&D activities are designed primarily to come up with reliable, indispensable and environment-conscious products that meet the needs of the market.
Our core products are distributed worldwide, with technical research laboratories located in Otake City (Hiroshima), Yasu City (Shiga), Shanghai (China) and Singapore. We are developing new products from a global viewpoint, while sharing information across the company.

Marine Coatings

1)R&D focusing on cleanliness

Our R&D activities are designed primarily to come up with reliable, indispensable and environment-conscious products that meet the needs of the market.
Our core products are distributed worldwide, with technical research laboratories located in Otake City (Hiroshima), Yasu City (Shiga), Shanghai (China) and Singapore. We are developing new products from a global viewpoint, while sharing information across the company.


2) R&D focusing on energy saving

We are developing user-friendly products for coating new ships that meet the needs of both domestic and overseas markets, some of which include environmentally-friendly anticorrosive coatings and those contributing to streamlining the process of coating and, by extension, saving labor.

3) R&D focusing on environmental friendliness and durability
We are developing a variety of high-solid coatings, solvent-free coatings and water-based coatings that are durable and environmentally friendly, according to VOC emission regulations and the ballast tank coating regulations set by the International Maritime Organization.

Industrial Coatings

1) Heavy-duty coatings

Based on the principle of environmental friendliness, we are developing heavy-duty coatings, focusing on the needs of the market: long-term anticorrosion performance, ultra-weatherability and contamination resistance. Efforts are also underway to develop special grades such as radio-wave absorbing coatings, heat shield coatings and underwater-curing coatings, all designed to contribute to industry.


2) Construction coatings

As for coatings for floor materials and other wooden construction materials, we have expanded our market share by developing new products such as inorganic coatings that meet the needs of users. In particular, the focus has been on products conforming to VOC emission regulations, including solvent-free and water-based grades. Our UV curing technology accumulated through research into coatings for wooden construction materials, meanwhile, is finding applications in other areas, with the technical research laboratory in Yasu City (Shiga) playing a key role in it.

3) High-performance coatings

Our line of high-performance coatings include anti-fingerprint and UV-shielding hardcoat coatings for plastic films and molded products, designed for applications such as touch panels and displays, demand for which is increasing.

4) R&D focusing on new markets

We are developing new coatings (including powder and water-based coatings) and coating systems with less VOC content, with efforts underway to serve new customers in addition to existing ones.

5) R&D focusing on the global market

We are developing industrial coatings for the global market, including China, Korea and Southeast Asian countries.

Container Coatings

We are designing and developing new products such as contamination-resistant grades, meeting the needs of users in a timely manner. Efforts are also underway to develop environmentally friendly products including low odor and water-based grades, with the technical research laboratories in Shanghai and Otake City (Hiroshima) playing a key role in it.


Coating Resins

Doing thorough experiments and making full use of advanced inspection equipment, the company conducts research into basic/applied coating technology, promoting mid/long term research activities in areas ranging from material science to the development of high performance, and quality products. In order to reflect customers’ product-related requirements, which are necessary in effective R&D, information is actively exchanged with the Sales department. The results of R&D are applied widely in new product innovation, environment protection, and improvements in existing products.
